Hence, the place came to be known as Bageshwar and became an important centre for Shiva worshippers. There is a famous ancient temple called Baghwath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which was built by Raja Laxmi Chand. It attracts thousands of devotees, especially during the popular Uttarayani Fair, every year in January.
