Dantan is a large village situated on the Orissa Trunk Road, about 65 km away from the south of Midnapore town. There is a railway station of the same name, which lies on the South Eastern Railway in Howrah-Puri section.
There are a number of temples which are associated with king Sasanka. Among these, the most famous is an ancient Shiva temple called Syamaleshwar Temple.The ancient Syamaleswar Temple is located at Dantan in West Bengal. A large stone statue of a bull lying in front of a Shivling can be seen at the entrance of the temple. The village has two large tanks namely Bidyadhar and Sarsankha.
