Durgapur is an industrial township in the state of West Bengal, India. Durgapur is the vision child of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy the first Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal in Independent India. It was primarily designed by Joseph Allen Stein Stein, designer and planner, along with Benjamin Polk, an American architect living in Calcutta. Durgapur is well known for engineering and chemical industries and well planned residential townships. One is the Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) and the other is the Alloy Steels Plant (ASP). Although these plants had their share of troubled times in the past both these plants are doing fairly well now.
