After the fall of Mughal Empire, Jhajjar went through a period of turmoil and instability. In the early 18th century, the town came under the control of Nawabs family of Farukh Nagar. Jats, Marathas and the Sikhs constantly trying to wrest the control of Jhajjar added to the woes of its rulers. In 1803, the East India Company gained control of the town.
