Jind, the seat of administration of Jind District in Haryana, is a historic town situated 123 km north-west of Delhi. It is a prominent grain market in the district. It lies in central Haryana and is the fourth district of Jat belt (i.e Sonipat, Rohtak, Hissar, Jind).
Places of tourist interest in and around the town include Pindara, Ramrai, Asvini Kumara Teertha (14 km), Varaha, Munjavata and Dhamtan Sahib. Rani Talab is main tourist place and Pandu-Pidara is the main devotional place attracting devotees for Amaavas bath.City is clean with little or no industrial units.
Legends say that the town developed around the Jainti Devi temple built by the Pandavas, and hence was named Jaintapuri.The town was the centre of the princely state of Jind. Jind is the corruption of Jaintapuri.
