Kalpetta is situated 72 km to the northeast of Kozhikode and is the only municipality in the district. Kalpetta is also headquarters of Wayanad district in the state of Kerala in India.
Kalpetta is home to some of the old Jain temples in Kerala. The famous Ananthanathaswamy Jain Temple (at Puliyarmala) and the Santhinathan Temple at Venniyode stands testimony to the Jain tradition.
Nearest airport is at Kozhikode, which is also the closest major railway station. Kalpetta has regular buses to Kozhikode, Kannur, Sultan Battery and Mysore.
